Mock TOACS for IMM in OMFS

Here’s a set of 15 TOACS stations tailored for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) students:

1. History Taking Station

Task: Obtain a detailed history from a patient with a complaint of persistent oral pain.

Skills Assessed: Communication, systematic history-taking, differential diagnosis formulation.

2. Clinical Examination

Task: Perform an intraoral and extraoral examination for a patient with a swelling in the mandible.

Skills Assessed: Knowledge of asepsis, sterilization techniques, and patient safety.

7. Differential Diagnosis

Task: Provide a differential diagnosis for a patient with a non-healing ulcer on the tongue.

Skills Assessed: Diagnostic reasoning, logical approach to patient care.

8. Local Anesthesia Administration

Task: Demonstrate the technique of administering an inferior alveolar nerve block on a model.

Skills Assessed: Knowledge of anatomy, proper technique, and patient communication.

9. Case Discussion

Task: Discuss the management of a patient with a cystic lesion in the maxilla.

Skills Assessed: Clinical reasoning, management planning, and treatment options.

10. Medical Emergency

Task: Manage a simulated scenario of syncope during an OMFS procedure.

11. Biopsy Techniques

Task: Explain and demonstrate the procedure for an incisional biopsy in the oral cavity.

Skills Assessed: Technical knowledge, safety considerations, and patient education.

12. Pre-Operative Assessment

Task: Perform a pre-operative assessment for a patient scheduled for wisdom tooth extraction under general anesthesia.

13. Pharmacological Prescriptions

14. Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD)
